HEY
DR. STEPH!
Hey there, I’m Dr. Steph!
You can find me in Sherman, TX. I specialize in counseling individuals who struggle with eating disorders, sexual trauma, and anxiety. I dig deep to help them restore peace, happiness, and confidence in their lives.
I am not a “stuffy”, you lie on the couch while I analyze you-type therapist. Rather I am pretty relatable and laid-back. I will tell you about my experience and why I think I am a good therapist. This will help you determine if I am the right therapist for you. But first I want you to know a little bit about me.
I am Not a Sit Back, Nod, and Repeat Type of Therapist
I will offer you perspective, challenge thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that keep you from experiencing happiness, confidence, and success.
You will find I am human and I am fun. I love Texoma and am very involved in our community. You will likely find me out and about with my dogs and my husband enjoying all the activities and adventures our wonderful and small community offers. I grew up here in Texoma and I am proud of our quiet and unique way of life here in Sherman, TX.
You See Therapy is About a Relationship, One Between You and Me
If you are going to open up and share your thoughts and feelings you want to know I am human and you can trust me.
When I was younger I struggled with accepting myself. I experienced self-doubt and insecurity and I did not see my value. I believe that what you think about yourself and others determines how you feel and how you relate in the world. So you can imagine, not thinking very positive about self, caused similar feelings and behaviors. I wish I had a mentor and I wish I had someone to help me see how valuable I was. I wanted to know that I was “good enough” and that it was OK to dream.
This is the kind of therapist I am…
I want to help you see your value. I want to help you see happiness, confidence, and success are available to you. I want you to leave sessions with real life nuggets of information that you begin to apply in your life. I will help you find tools that are applicable to where you are at in your life.
My Education, Training, and Experience:
So how do you know that I am qualified to help you? I suppose I should mention my education, training, and experiences.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) with a PhD in Health Psychology. I have over 20 years of experience working with women, men, and adolescents who struggle with eating disorders, trauma, self-esteem, depression, and anxiety.
I have helped hundreds of people overcome eating disorders, trauma, and adversity to find happiness, healing, and confidence. I have journeyed with individuals to replace self-harming behaviors, overcome disordered eating, improve self-esteem, and find self-worth.
In addition to my formal education, my personal experience helps me relate on a level of ‘knowing’ what you are going through. Several years were spent as being consumed with eating and body image as a fitness professional.
I was a member of the team that developed the eating disorder program at Timberline Knolls. My experience includes working with individuals dealing with eating disorders in inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings.
I take a non-diet, intuitive eating, and Health At Every Size approach. I am a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professional Foundation (IAEDP). I am an active member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals. In addition to helping individuals struggling with eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, and life, I also offer supervision and mentorship for young professional counselors.
